Bush Fire

In writing this week we were learning to describe. We decided to link our writing with our natural disaster topic and describe a bush fire.

Here are some of the students story lines.

Problem Solving with our buddy class!

Today we tried to solve the school news letter problem.
The students had 16 matchsticks making 5 squares, they were only allowed to move two matchsticks to make it into four squares. They done a fantastic job and all groups managed to solve the problem together.

The Raving Researchers

This term Room 19 have been asked to become researchers to help find information on natural disasters.
Room 19 children decided that their researcher name would be the Raving Researchers.

Room 19 has chosen to look into bush fires. Here is the beginning of our research. This shows what we already know about bush fires and what we would like to find out.

We have talked about how we could find this information out and the students decided that we could use documentaries, books and the internet to help us.

Our Assembly!

Last Friday it was our turn to perform an assembly with our buddy class.
Our focus was on individuality and our unique personalities. Here are a few videos of our assembly I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed performing.
Here is a video of our song and photos of us with our buddies.

One Half!

In maths this week we have been learning about fractions. We have started with halves.

The students had to identify which shapes were cut correctly in half.

We found that to have half it needs to be equal groups.
We then found half of whole shapes and how we can show half in different ways on a shape.

We were doing so well at identifying half in shapes that we moved onto finding half of groups.

Liquids!

This week we have been learning all about liquids.

We started our liquid investigation through discovery play. Students were given a bucket of water and were to explore the water and answer specific questions such as how does it feel and can we pour it. This was a great hands on experience which the children loved.

This led to us being able to describe a liquid through a poem.

Then in our minds we went on a trip to the supermarket. We were only allowed liquids on our shopping list. Here is a list of some of the liquids we bought.

We then made our own worms and described their length.

We are learning to ...

This week we are learning to describe the characters in our stories.

We firstly discussed who is a character.
We decided on ways that we could describe our characters.
As a class we described the character from our shared book.
The Hungry Giant

Ask your children to describe their favourite movie character.
