Collaborative game: Empathy

This week we have been looking at empathy and putting ourselves in someone's else shoes. How would they feel? We started with a collaborative game. The game's aim was to get across the court without touching the concrete. There was a lot of problem solving, reflecting and we practised a lot of empathy! We made a lot of mistakes but we will try again.

Week 8: Persuasive Writing

This week some of us have been looking at persuasive writing. We watched some tv commercials and advertisement to identify some language features. What do they have in common? What makes it effective?

Here are some:

  • Repeated words
  • Exaggeration
  • Exclamation marks
  • Paragraphs
  • Emotive words
  • Connectives and Conjunctions
  • Present tense
  • Rhetorical Questions
  • Strong verbs
  • Powerful adjectives
  • Personal pronouns
  • Facts and Statistics
We then used Canva,  Paper or Screencastify to create our own ad. We had to include the language features.  Some of us tried to sell slime, squishy toys, wearing backpack in class, bracelets, ice-cream, Candyland, donuts, Doritos, paper, no Home study, self-opening tent....etc.

Week 7: Space Art

This week, for our space project we complete scrafito's. This is where you colour in a piece of paper with lots of different colours and shapes. Once this is done, you then use black paint to cover up all of the colour.

Then once the paint was dry we used a stick to scratch out our design. We had to make it look like we were travelling through the galaxy. Once we were all finished we put them up in our break out room to make it look like the Solar system.

Here is our display.

Week 6: Sick Sentences

This week we have been looking at our revising skills. We have been finding sick (boring) sentences and using our skills to make them better. We have learnt how to use adjectives to make our sentence more interesting. We are beginning to understand what an adverb is and when to use them.

We had great fun sharing all our different versions of the same sentence. The students then went on to finish the story and had amazing ideas, such as exploring for a mythical creature, finding an alien spaceship and being swallowed into a black hole.
