Rain, Rain, Rain!

Due to the awful rain yesterday and our classrooms nearly flooding we decided to write our own poems about the rain. Here are some of our finished pieces.

Fine

Rain is a liquid
And it looks so small
It soaks you right through
No one is allowed in the rain

Lola

Rain, rain, beautiful rain heading down the drain
A good day can turn into a bad day all because of rain!
I love the rain because it's fresh
Not nice rain because it is cold
I love the rain
No one can stop the rain
Go away rain

Lorelai

Rain is
A liquid
It feels wet
Now it has dried up
It is raining again and it has flooded
Now it has dried up so we can
Go outside and play

Vicky
Rain is here, it is a liquid
A raindrop goes through the water cycle
I need a umbrella to keep dry!
Need gumboots too
If I have a raincoat I can put that on to
Normally there won't be a flood

Devon

Rain is a liquid
Air is oxygen
It feels wet
Never ending bullets on the roof
It flooded at the front
No going outside
Go inside and play

Suki

Rain is hammering on your roof
A lot of rain is falling like a waterfall
I have never seen a flood have you?
New rain, old rain, rain is fun!

What happened to the water??

In Science we have been learning all about water, so far we have found that water can change from a liquid into a solid or a gas. We are now discovering the water cycle and all the different processes that happen.
To test our knowledge of what we already knew we took part in a experiment.
Each student had to wet their hand and place it on a paper tissue for 5 seconds. Once they had a hand print on their tissue they had to trace around with their felt pen. This paper was then left over night for us to discover what would happen in the morning.
The students all made their own predictions, ranging from the water will dry, the felt pen will change colour, the tissue will rip, the water will change colour and the water will spread.
In the morning the students discovered the water had dried, which is the process of evaporation. Here are our hand prints and predictions.

Environment Day

This Friday was Environment Day. So as a class we discussed ways that we could help our environment. A number of ways we decided to help was to turn off our classroom lights, to turn of the radiator, to put our rubbish in the bin and to walk to school. Here is our display on how we can help save our world. One their fingers each child put between 5 and 10 ways in which they were going to help.
With your child discuss ways you can help the environment :)
