One Half!

In maths this week we have been learning about fractions. We have started with halves.

The students had to identify which shapes were cut correctly in half.

We found that to have half it needs to be equal groups.
We then found half of whole shapes and how we can show half in different ways on a shape.

We were doing so well at identifying half in shapes that we moved onto finding half of groups.

Liquids!

This week we have been learning all about liquids.

We started our liquid investigation through discovery play. Students were given a bucket of water and were to explore the water and answer specific questions such as how does it feel and can we pour it. This was a great hands on experience which the children loved.

This led to us being able to describe a liquid through a poem.

Then in our minds we went on a trip to the supermarket. We were only allowed liquids on our shopping list. Here is a list of some of the liquids we bought.

We then made our own worms and described their length.

We are learning to ...

This week we are learning to describe the characters in our stories.

We firstly discussed who is a character.
We decided on ways that we could describe our characters.
As a class we described the character from our shared book.
The Hungry Giant

Ask your children to describe their favourite movie character.

ANZAC!

This week we have been learning all about ANZAC. Our week started with a medal ceremony which allowed the students to step into the role of a soldier! We had some amazing medals, stars, the queen and swords. This really encouraged the students to step into the shoes of a soldier. They had a great fun being honored.

We then joined room 11 in making ANZAC cookies. We talked about how the ANZAC cookies were made by the wives and mums of the soldiers. The children then enjoyed the cookies whilst listening to an ANZAC story.

Cricket in Rm 19

Lately at lunch time it has been so great to see most of the children from room 19 all coming together and enjoying a game of cricket. The love to cheer each other on and are very particular about playing by the same rules as the Black Caps. They sometimes let me play to!

It's really nice to see as a teacher a class that really enjoy each other's company and who are so supportive of each other in sport activities.

Mrs Rogers is Leaving!

As you may know Mrs Rogers is leaving us at the end of term 1.
As a present to the school Mrs Rogers bought a flag for each of the nations that we represent with in our school.
We will  miss Mrs Rogers very much and we are so grateful for all she has done for us. Have an amazing new adventure Mrs Rogers!
